XOOPS is approaching a next generation of web CMS - XooSphere. During the procedure, we have a couple of intermediate releases, including XOOPS 2.013, 2.2*, 2.3 and so on. It is good for users to get know of some features they are expecting before the final XooSphere comes out, however, the modules for various release of XOOPS causes troubles to XOOPS users and module developers. Hereby we are doing out best to make a package of modules compatible with all active XOOPS releases: XOOPS 2.013, XOOPS 2.2*, XOOPS 2.3

I am building the Xoops blogs module, yet another PHP version of feed planet.
While trying to collect Xoops site feeds, I found some sites are not available with XML feeds (RSS/RDF/ATOM), some with invalid feeds.
Check the Xoops site list I have collected, or subscribe yourself.
IT-HQ has no feeds available. SmartFactory feeds are invalid. Xoops.org is down at this moment.

Am I wrong? I did not realize the huge incompatibility before some users complained/reported on Xoops China. After some test with wingoffire’s help, I decided to install PHP 5.1 RC1 to make a complete test.
So far no reference related notice/error reported and the scripts seem very close to the one that had been rolled back. Also, there were some critical incompatibility fixed in some of my modules.
The Core and fixed modules will be released to Xoops China soon. ppl have waited too long and are loosing patience little by little.

From SugarCRM announces developer contest at NewsForge, we learnt that Scott Weiner is still active with his SugarXoops project.
Like most of the developers in the Sugar community, Weiner develops extensions for the software in order to better serve his clients. His major contribution to SugarForge is Xoops, a content management system that he said is “the tip of the iceberg” as far as integration software for Sugar.

A new type of Xoops “service” is now available at http://xoopsforge.com/modules/blogs/ What is it? Just check it by yourself. I’m not sure whether “blogs” is a proper name for it.
Remember to submit your blog or recommend some good ones: http://xoopsforge.com/modules/blogs/action.blog.php

Xoops - Not a good sign when the main developer is apologising for not being around…… Not particularly for me.
– I was so surpurised while reading the message after following a Technorati Tag link. As a member of the Xoops Dev Group (hope I am qualified), I am more than sad on such as a comment as Tack on Xoops. Not too bad, glad to learn that Tack puts WordPress on his top list, to which I am also paying more attention - XPress

Anders Brownworth demonstrates an interesting new attack that
Appending a newline character and a few more carefully crafted header lines with a BCC list and a spam message body might trick the underlying mail system into relaying spam for the attacker
which is usually accomplished through not well filtered email address field. Anders also wrote an article for it.
Some Xoops modules are vulnerable to this issue, including the former Official “contact” module, as well as other ones with “refer to a friend” function. Fortunately, it is simple to fix for Xoops modules by using Xoops function checkEmail($_POST[”email_address_submitted_by_user”]); Is there anything else I missed?
Added on Sep 19th, 2005 Not check for sure but several modules with potential vulnerability: 1 wfchannel — refer to a friend 2 liase (?) 3 my new module under-dev

A copy from ????Xoops Cube (Xoops Japan)?????
XOOPS Cube Development Roadmap
The “XOOPS Cube” is a fork version of the XOOPS. This document briefly describes where the XOOPS Cube project has been, and then details where it is going. This roadmap direct where the project is going, however, this document may be amended upon needs of users and developers.
Background: The XOOPS has been developed from the beginning of 2002, forked from php-nuke. The XOOPS 2.0.x development team, lead by Onokazu, set a high standard that is flexible and adaptable to a wide range of uses. Thus, 3rd party developers and designers can work on extensions and implementations, while the development team works on core development. The XOOPS get very popular nowadays. Many users from individuals to large organization, including government authorities and enterprises, use the XOOPS to fit their needs. In the September 2003, a half-year after the XOOPS 2.0 had been shipped, new XOOPS development team has been discussed. It has ‘Core development team’, ‘theme design team’, ‘quality control team’, ‘document team’ and so on, aiming to get more impetus by role sharing. It resulted in confusion and delay of decision making to fix security bugs. In addition to that, it was a critical problem to Japanese and some others that there was some updates including disregards for use of multi-byte characters. XOOPS JP team had proposed to take major part in XOOPS development. However, it was refused by the XOOPS team at www.xoops.org. The XOOPS JP team struggled in dysfunction for providing XOOPS which fit people’s needs in Japan. Thus, XOOPS JP team had decided to provide a new version of the XOOPS (= XOOPS Cube) for the people who needs prompt security fix and true multi-byte support.
Direction: We put first priority on multi-byte compatibility of the XOOPS Cube. Users who use single-byte characters are also welcome. We provide English and Japanese version of the XOOPS Cube. We also welcome developer, translator and community organizer from all the world. We keep basic principals such as user friendly interface and having fun experience for user and developers heretofore in the XOOPS Cube. We try to develop keeping versatility of the new XOOPS fork, as it is used at various type of website from individual to enterprises.
In the relation to XOOPS offered from xoops.org, interchangeability at the module level with XOOPS 2.0.10 is secured. We will make effort to keep interchangeability with the XOOPS offered from xoops.org (version 2.0.10 and below), however, it is no guarantee to keep the interchangeability in future releases.

After days of work, I have managed to convert the “API” used by Article module to a generic Xoops plugin that can be used by any module.
I am not sure what name is proper for it, just call it “Transfer“.
Currently we have two three modules on this site enabled with the functionality: Article, could transfer an article to NewBB/CBB, WordPress, DokuWiki, PDF, print and emailing. CBB , could transfer a post to Article, WordPress, DokuWiki, PDF, print and emailing. XMLine, could transfer remote content (RSS/RDF/ATOM) to Article, CBB, WordPress, DokuWiki, PDF, print and emailing.
The transfer items is plugable, which means there is no limit on plugins.
A bookmark plugin is being developed.
Updated: Sep 13, 2005 23:25 Eastern Time Bookmark is now enabled in both CBB and Article: delicious, Sina VIVI, Yesky, 365key, BlogChina Note: the later four are for Chinese only. If you have any social bookmark services, plz let me know so that I can make them coming with Xoops plugin.

Lussumo Vanilla, a new style which would give us hints for CBB’s layout design BTW, Vanilla is also a DokuWiki user.
Meet Vanilla: a new kind of web forum
With Vanilla we wanted to break the mold created and followed by just about every other forum on the web. We sat down and thought about what we liked, and more importantly, what we didn’t like about web forums. We wanted emphasis on the discussions rather than the statistics. We wanted to stop using MSN or AIM to send secret messages to other forum members; We wanted to be able to save the common searches. Basically, we wanted the thing to work for us instead of against us. Most importantly we wanted it to be free and we wanted it to run on just about every web server out there. So, Vanilla is a PHP / MySQL solution that is 100% open-source. You can take it and alter it and use it free of charge. The GPL is your friend.
Here are a few more of Vanilla’s features… Extensibility
A fully extensible solution, Vanilla comes loaded with extensions, and we’re adding new ones all the time. If you are a programmer, you can create your own, too. If you’re interested in getting involved and making some extensions, read the documentation and join our community forum. Style
Vanilla has an awesome xhtml setup that allows you to create custom styles, or you can use some of the ones we’ve already created. If you’re a CSS guru, read the documentation and see how to create and submit your own styles. Internationalization
Vanilla also has a custom language component that allows you to run any language. If we don’t have your language, you should do a translation! Find out how at Lussumo Documentation. Much, much more…
There is still so much more that we haven’t even touched the surface of. But the best part of Vanilla is that it’s not cluttered with links and buttons you don’t understand. Vanilla is clean and smooth. Simply put: Vanilla is a pleasure to use.

I am seeking comeslogist(s) for my module “Article”. “Article” is a new module that I have been working on for almost one year.
Functionalities:
- Typical article management
- News management
- Personal Blog
Features:
- Different templates/css for each individual article and category (A new trial I have created and hope it would benefit XOOPS modules)
- Cross-category
- Topic (Or special series)
- True multi-pages (no length limit for an article, another new feature I have created)
- Different level of edit forms
- Different article status (from created, personal, submitted, registered, published to featured)
- Keywords bridging
- Headings/Notes auto-generation
- Pingback/trackback
More features will be disclosed with public release.
If you have interest and to serve as “Article Comeslogist”, plz send me message or leave a comment here. Note: There is no count limit on comeslogists since the “Article” has the capability to use various templates and CSSes on-fly. Once your design is accepted, I would invite you as a co-author of the “Article”.
Dev status:
- The coding part has been finished.
- Xoops internal bridging system is being developed, partially implemented in the “Article”.
- A default set of template/css created by myself, fully-CSS driven, but the skin is not beautiful.
- Multi-user blog system, which is based on the “Article”, has been proposed.

A few months ago, when building a multilingual site with xlanguage, I found the site was crashed occasionally when xlanguage was enabled. To fix the problem, I hacked the sections module to store different languages of contents with different column and let xlanguage watch slight contents only, like menu, titles, tables.
Yesterday pgroell reported the same problem. Very early this morning, I got his message:
i just found this on the net, maybe it ’s the problem. http://www.phpbuilder.com/lists/php-documentation-list/2003101/0039.php A bug in Php, I’m using php 4.3.10, and don’t know if this has been fixed.
And then, the original bug report at php.net:
From http://www.pcre.org/pcre.txt, LIMITATIONS:
“The maximum length of a subject string is the largest positive number that an integer variable can hold. However, PCRE uses recursion to handle subpatterns and indefinite repetition. This means that the available stack space may limit the size of a subject string that can be processed by certain patterns.”
It should be noted that the maximum amount of data between pairs of tags in this PCRE case is not a constant as it differs between platforms, even with the same installed PHP versions. On a Debian box, I was able to process about 11650 bytes between to matching div tags.
Seems I was so lucky, using a silly but right solution before knowing the causes. There will be some related documentation for xlanguage.
Thanks pgroell.

sevak published a wonderful tool: Xoops 2.2 code documentation hosted by xoops.info, using phpxref.
Following sevak, I created a XoopsChina-dedicated XOOPS REFERENCE based on XOOPS 2.2* upto Aug 25th, 2005, including XOOPS core and the module package released to Xoops China:
- backup
- calendar (Chinese)
- digest
- dokuwiki
- istats (modified version)
- CBB
- wordpress
- xconv
- xlanguage
- xmline
It does eat up a lot of space, surpringly.
